Australian National Greenhouse Accounts Factors

This article outlines the key emission factors used from the Australian National Greenhouse Accounts (NGA) Factors

The Australian NGA factors are published yearly by the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources. These factors allow organisations to estimate greenhouse gas emissions using Australian specific factors. NGA factors are available from 2014 onward and the 2020 Factors are available here.

Key factors used by Pathzero include:

Scope 1

  • Stationary combustion emission factors (kg CO2e1/GJ)
  • Mobile combustion emission factors (kg CO2e/GJ)

Scope 2

  • State-based electricity emission factors (kg CO2e/kWh) using the location-based electricity accounting approach

Scope 3

  • Stationary combustion upstream emission factors (kg CO2e/GJ)
  • Mobile combustion upstream emission factors (kg CO2e/GJ)
  • Electricity transmission and distribution loss emission factor (kg CO2e/kWh)
  • Waste disposal emission factors (e.g. kg CO2e/tonne)
