Understanding the project type selection process and its importance in estimating emissions.
What are the project types?
The project types you can select on Pathzero Navigator are based on the project categories as defined by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia.
They refer to the defined activity, or set of activities, that are being financed. For example, the construction and operation of a gas-fired power plant, or a wind or solar project.
There are 23 unique project types available for selection.
Why is selecting the correct project type important on Pathzero Navigator?
In most instances, when you select the project type, it will automatically select the relevant GICS industry and sub-industry, as well as the correct Environmentally Extended Input-Output (EEIO)-sector.
The EEIO sector determines the region and sector-based factors which are used for estimating financed emissions for the project.
The EEIO sector also determines whether the project type is for construction or operation more broadly, as each stage of a project lifecycle has a very different greenhouse gas emissions profile.
Therefore, selecting the correct project type is pivotal.
In some instances, after you have selected the project type, you will be required to select the most appropriate GICS sub-industry and/or EEIO sector from the options presented.
To select the project type and EEIO sector for a project on Pathzero Navigator, follow these steps:
- Select the most relevant project type from the dropdown provided. In most instances, this will automatically select the relevant GICS industry and sub-industry, as well as the correct EEIO-sector
- In some instances, you will be required to select the most appropriate GICS sub-industry and/or EEIO sector from the selection presented.
- Once all selections have been made, click ‘Choose this sector’ to save your selections.
