2.1 Context for Protocol requirements

This article sets the scene for the requirements of this protocol

The requirements of the Protocol have been written for organisations who are seeking to understand the basis of a carbon neutral claim attained by using the Pathzero platform.

Throughout this document, the term ‘must’ is used to signify what is required to make a carbon neutral claim in accordance with the Protocol. The terms ‘can’ or ‘may’ are used where an organisation can apply its own discretion and choose from several options, all of which are acceptable under the Protocol. The term ‘should’ is used to indicate a recommendation by the standard, in line with best practice.

An organisation is a company, corporation, firm, enterprise, authority or institution, or a combination thereof, whether incorporated or not, public or private, that has its own functions and administration. This may also include an organisation that shares functions and/or administration with another organisation.

The Protocol only covers greenhouse gas emissions. Other environmental impacts of the business are not covered in the Protocol or addressed in the web application.
